90% of population connected to sewerage network; Sewer length within Beirut water office: 312 km; Estimated investment cost: US$ 19 million 100% of population served; Population served: 0.6 million Included elsewhere                       Minimizing pollution risk
Existing collection networks have been upgraded to replace damaged and low capacity networks and expanded to cover previously unsewered areas. Main interceptors and collectors for conveying the sewage generated in Beirut to Ghadir and Bourj Hammoud treatment plants, main arteries for stormwater. Illegal discharge of stormwater into sewers and sewers into stormdrains is common. An investment cost of US$ 70 million has been spent since 1992, 55% of which were for rehabilitation and upgrading and 45% for new facilities Network deficiencies (capacity, settlement, leakages, combined sewage & stormwater) solved Upgrading all existing networks and seperating sewage and stormwater networks. It requires a land use survey, a detailed house connection survey to identify sewage and stormwater connections, developing options for stormwater collection, network capacity simulation, & regular O&M. The areas to be covered are: (1) Mazraa & Mseitbeh, (2) Achrafieh, Rmeil, Saife & Mdawar, (3) Bachoura, Ras el Nabeh, (4) Ras Beirut - Mseitbeh   This is part of the road and infrastructure rehabilitation and upgrading program; its estimated cost is US$ 95 million                 10% Reduces malfunctions; Improves efficiency of STP M 1

Waste water   M.Lebanon   Within Greater Beirut: 75% of population connected to sewerage network; other main villages 50% connected; others 10% connected; Collectors from uphill villages to coastal STP not constructed; Sewer length: 41 km; Estimated investment cost: US$ 2.5 million. The feasibility study and prelimimary design were updated in 2000 based on the 1982 scheme without assessing new possible sewerage schemes. Feasibility studies were undertaken for Baabdat, Dleibeh & Sfeileh; their project outcome were administratively and politically rejected under pretention that they are in contracdiction with the initial 1982 scheme, which could be outdated. Master plan for Northern Beirut Basin updated, including identification of water resources to be protected, identifying and studying new sewerage schemes, establishing priorities & construction schedule, & setting construction standards & workmanship; 100% of population within Greater Beirut served. Sewerage schemes are designed and implemented based on basins rather than municiplities. Upgrading all existing networks and seperating sewage and stormwater networks within Greater Beirut up to an elevation to be determined by the feasibility. Beyond such limit storm drains to be discharges into water streams. It requires a land use survey, a detailed house connection survey to identify sewage and stormwater connections, developing options for stormwater collection, network capacity simulation, & regular O&M.    Establishing the Administrative set up 2 1 0.5 0 0 0 0 0 25% Optimization of investment M 2

Main interceptors and collectors for conveying the sewage generated within Beirut to Bourj Hammoud treatment plant, main arteries for stormwater. Illegal discharge of stormwater into sewers and sewers into stormdrains is common. An investment cost of US$ 40 million has been spent since 1992, 35% of which were for rehabilitation and upgrading and 65% for new facilities. Most of the new investments was for the Dbaiyeh-Borj Hammoud collector. Collector Khenchara-Choueir has been constructed.
