Signing of an agreement with the World Bank for $ 55 million to reduce the pollution of lake Qaraoun

The minister of Finance, Mr. Ali Hassan Khalil, signed in the presence of the ministers of Energy, M. Arthur Nazarian, mnister of the Environment M. Mohammad Machnouk, an agreement between the Ministry of Finance, the World Bank and the Council for Development and Reconstruction to reduce the pollution of the lake Qaraoun. The agreement was signed along with the Minister Khalil, by the regional director of the World Bank M. Farid Belhaj, the president of CDR, Engineer Nabil El-Jisr. M.Khalil pointed out that the direct beneficiaries of this project is approximately 350 thousand people representing 7% of the total population of Lebanon and that the number of indirect beneficiaries up to 800 thousand people representing 18% of the population. In turn, the regional director of the World Bank, M. Farid Belhaj pointed to preparations for a bigger cooperation in the coming years. The president the Council for Development and Reconstruction Eng. Nabil El-Jisr, revealed negotiations conducted by CDR with the World Bank about 2 important projects worth 200 million USD. The first is a road rehabilitation project. the Japanese will contribute to hundred million USD extra. The survey was initiated for all the roads of Lebanon. The second project is related to the rapid transportation worth 250 million USD.
